Health Net, Inc., a managed care company, provides managed health care services through its health plans and government-sponsored managed care plans. The company offers health benefits through its health maintenance organizations, insured preferred provider organizations, and point of service plans to approximately 6.0 million individuals across the country through group, individual, Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, and Veterans Affairs programs. Its behavioral health services subsidiary, Managed Health Network, Inc., provides behavioral health, substance abuse, and employee assistance programs to approximately 5.1 million individuals, including its health plan members. The company's subsidiaries also offer managed health care products related to prescription drugs; and provide managed health care product co-ordination for multi-region employers, and administrative services for medical groups and self-funded benefits programs. In addition, it owns health and life insurance companies, which are licensed to sell preferred provider organization, point-of-service, and indemnity products, as well as auxiliary non-health products, such as life and accidental death and dismemberment, dental, vision, behavioral health, and disability insurance. The company was formerly known as Foundation Health Systems, Inc. and changed its name to Health Net, Inc. on November 6, 2000. Health Net, Inc. was founded in 1979 and is headquartered in Woodland Hills, California.
