Open-high-low-close SPDR S&P 500 quotes (also OHLC quotes) are typically used to illustrate movements in the price of the SPDR S&P 500 (^SPY) over time. Open-high-low-close quotes are represented on a chart by bars (bar charts). Each vertical line on the chart shows the price range (the highest and lowest prices).
Open-high-low-close SPDR S&P 500 (^SPY) quotes are used in technical analysis to build price-based SPDR S&P 500 (^SPY) indicators. The majority of the SPDR S&P 500 (^SPY) technical studies are based on the close price of the SPDR S&P 500 (^SPY) (Moving Average, MACD, RSI, TRIX, etc.).
